Before I say anything else, I just want to thank West Bindary for this. I could find no other place online that had a bound version of this, and trust me, I SEARCHED.
I learned saxophone in grade school, and went on to become a really good player. The way I learned was from books more similar to this than the other learning guitar books I've flipped through. Don't get me wrong, the other books are fine, and they absolutely will help teach you basics, but this, This is how I learn. And it feels more like... How do I put this... It feels like it's meant to be teaching a more adult mind than an elementary one if that makes sense.
I found West Bindary by looking for this book in a bound version. It's, huge, I don't know, maybe an inch and a half thick, if not more. If you've ever played music and tried to deal with a thick song book where you had to crease the pages back to get them to stay, it's annoying af. AND, it messes up the cover and the spine of the book. You're trying to get it to lay flat on your music stand, and it's oddly curved, or flipping pages back on its own, and sometimes it gets frustrating or hard to read. Why the publisher didn't offer a bound version is beyond me. This is just SO nice, because you can quickly flip to the next page without having to take both hands off the guitar. That right there is enough for me. But they also did such a nice job. I thought about buying the normal version and doing it myself, but I didn't think I could do it without making a mess of it, or hole punching too close to the text. This feels and looks like it was originally made this way. I got this and the Hal Leonard method to get the shipping free on both. Both of them were awesome. At first I was concerned because I only got one of the books, but I reached out through the email on their support page and they said not to worry, the other book was on the way already. My guess is maybe they had the Hal Leonard version done and had to do this one when I ordered it. I don't know, but regardless, they were very kind and I did indeed get the second book a little bit later. I thought it was cool they sent the first one out immediately. Super nice.
If you're just learning, or your trying to support someone you know that is just learning a new instrument, it's worth it to buy a bound version, it will make learning smoother, and the book will just last longer, too.
