Biographical Note:

Thomas Straker is a classically trained chef and owner of Straker's restaurant. He started his journey as a chef after leaving school in 2008, but really it began long before that, growing in Herefordshire where his parents kept special breed sheep, and he prides himself on his deep knowledge of produce and good farming. Tom's mother also owned a local pub where he gained his first exposure to commercial kitchens at the ripe old age of 12.

He has worked in some of London's top restaurants including The Dorchester, Dinner and Elystan Street. Tom has since begun to make cooking videos and amassed over 5 million followers worldwide, including millions on both TikTok and Instagram, and his #AllThingsButter series has been viewed over one billion times. Tom's first restaurant, Straker's, was opened to critical acclaim and has been cited as one of the most sought-after tables in London. This is his debut cookbook. He lives in London.

"[A] striking debut. The accessible, wide-ranging recipes will appeal to a variety of tastes . . . The result is an excellent, well-rounded collection of recipes that home cooks of all levels will turn to time and again." --Publishers Weekly, starred review

"Not just a viral hot property but an experienced and talented chef. The recipes are very much geared towards the home cook." -- Nigella Lawson

"[A] book that feels good in your hands . . . And while the dishes look stunning, they're mostly surprisingly uncomplicated. There were lots of things I was eager to cook." -- The Boston Globe

"An excellent pick for beginners, the focus is just as much on simplicity and education, and done with a clear premise: The 'food you want to eat' is approachable and seasonal, and it can be made by anyone at home. Like me, you might find that Straker's crab flatbread, blood orange sorbet, and chicken, leek and bacon pie are, in fact, exactly the food you want to eat too." -- Stephanie Breijo, Los Angeles Times

From approachable foccacias, bright soups, and fresh salads to more challenging options like the oxtail pie with smoked cheddar, Straker encourages a return to slow food, conscious cooking, and the idea that simple does not need to mean 'basic' or 'boring' but rather is a thoughtful approach to ingredient quality and use." -- Shelf Awareness

Contributor Bio:Straker, Thomas

Thomas Straker is a British chef, restaurateur and social media phenomenon.

Thomas discovered his love of food early in his life, growing up in Herefordshire on his family's smallholding, being heavily influenced by his mother's approach to growing food.

Realising his passion when he attended Ballymaloe Cookery school in 2009, he worked his way through some of London's top restaurants for the next 12 years, by which time he felt he had found his style of super-seasonal British cuisine with an Italian influence.

This simple approach to food and love of hospitality is what sprung his debut restaurant STRAKER'S into one of the most sought-after tables in London. This is also backed up with his large social following, food created always with the same ethos. One of the things that made Thomas's profile so dominant was his love of butter, creating one of the most viral food trends in 2022 on TikTok.
