There is coherence among the patterns, but they're hardly repetitive. The designs range from the expected traditional folk pattern of the pheasant or the hen tothe sleeker stork and flamingo, from an almost three-dimensional blue tit to an elaborately tailed peacock.Though the written instructions are relatively short, there is plenty of space devoted to close-up photographic detail of finished pieces and illustrated patterns for the embroidery. Lapierre provides clear introductory instructions on suggested materials and basic embroidery stitches, but the small size of the finished projects (based on the provided templates, most are a little over six inches long) and the detailed stitching work required to finish them make this an ideal challenge for more-experienced crafters.
